Accessible Recreation

The Department of Environmental Conservation is committed to providing an ever-increasing range of access opportunities to programs on New York State public lands. The Department's Motorized Access Program for People with Disabilities (MAPPWD) (pdf, 446 kB) permits qualifying people with disabilities to use motor vehicles for access to certain state lands. This program, which is administered through DEC Regional offices, provides access to significant recreational opportunities throughout the state and is one more way that New York is opening the outdoors to people with disabilities.

The Related Links section, in the right hand column of this page, provides information about accessible sites for outdoor recreation including: the current list of roads (MAPPWD Routes), application forms and instructions. MAPPWD permits may be obtained from your Regional DEC Forester.
