NCRR's Division for Clinical Research Resources provides funding to biomedical research institutions to establish and maintain specialized clinical research facilities and clinical-grade biomaterials that enable clinical and patient-oriented research.

NCRR's Division of Biomedical Technology supports research to develop innovative technologies and helps make them accessible to the biomedical research community.

NCRR's Division of Research Infrastructure supports programs to enhance the competitiveness of investigators in underserved states and institutions and also provides funding to build, expand, remodel, or renovate research facilities throughout the nation.

NCRR's Science Education Partnership Awards are designed to improve life science literacy throughout the nation.

The National Center for Research Resources is located on the ninth floor of One Democracy Plaza, about 2.5 miles northwest of the National Institutes of Health main campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

NCRR holds some meetings on the NIH main campus. If you drive to NIH, allow some extra time to get through security checkpoints at the visitor entrances. Be aware that visitor parking lots on the NIH campus can fill up quickly. Consider taking public transportation as an alternative.

From Metrorail

  (about 2 miles)
Metrorail service is available from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and from Washington's Union Stationexternal link, opens in new window. The closest Metrorail station to One Democracy Plaza is the Grosvenor-Strathmore station on the Red Line (going toward Shady Grove). Grosvenor-Strathmore is one stop north of the NIH main campus (which is the Medical Center station).

From the Grosvenor station, it is necessary to take a cab. Hint for the cab driver: We are located at 6701 Democracy Boulevard, which is across I-270 from Montgomery Mall, next to Bethesda Marriott Suites Hotel.

From Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)

  (about 36 miles)
Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 36, Old Georgetown Road (Rt. 187). Bear right toward Rockville, going northwest for about 0.6 miles. Turn left on Democracy Boulevard for about 0.7 miles. The entrance to Democracy Plaza is the first right turn after Fernwood Road.

From Dulles International Airport

  (about 22 miles)
Head east on the Dulles Airport Access Road for about 13 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 38 (I-270 north toward Rockville/Frederick). Take the Democracy Boulevard East exit. After about 0.2 miles on Democracy Boulevard, turn left onto Fernwood Road. Turn left after less than 100 feet back onto Democracy Boulevard and take the first right into Democracy Plaza.

From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

  (about 18 miles)
Head north on the George Washington Parkway for approximately 5 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 38 (I-270) north toward Rockville/Frederick. Take the Democracy Boulevard East exit. After about 0.2 miles on Democracy Boulevard, turn left onto Fernwood Road. Turn left after less than 100 feet back onto Democracy Boulevard and take the first right into Democracy Plaza.

From Points North

From Points East

At I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway), head north toward Baltimore then west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 36, Old Georgetown Road (Rt. 187).  Bear right toward Rockville, going northwest for about 0.6 miles. Turn left on Democracy Boulevard for about 0.7 miles. The entrance to Democracy Plaza is the first right turn after Fernwood Road.

From Points West

Take I-66 east toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway) head north toward Baltimore. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 38 (I-270) north toward Rockville/Frederick. Take the Democracy Boulevard East exit. After about 0.2 miles on Democracy Boulevard, turn left onto Fernwood Road. Turn left after less than 100 feet back onto Democracy Boulevard and take the first right into Democracy Plaza.

Parking

A commercially operated visitor parking lot is located directly east of One Democracy Plaza.

To reach visitor parking after entering from Democracy Boulevard, turn right and follow the signs directing you to make three more left turns into the lot.

From Fernwood Road, drive forward and turn left immediately in front of the building.
