From Washington Dulles International Airport:
Take the Dulles Access Road (no toll, but it's parallel to the Dulles Toll Road, Rt 267) to 495 N.   Take 495 N to 270 N.   Stay on 270 N to exit 15B  (~15 miles).   At second light, make a left into the DOE complex.   Check in at the North Entrance.
From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport:
Take the George Washington Parkway N to 495 N (or you can take 66 W to 495 N).   Take 495 N to 270 N.   Stay on 270 N to exit 15B (~15 miles).   At second light, make a left into the DOE complex.   Check in at the North Entrance.
From BWI (Baltimore/Washington International) Airport:
Take 95 (or the Baltimore-Washington Parkway) S to 495 W.   Take 495 W to 270 N.   Stay on 270 N to exit 15B (~15 miles).   At second light, make a left into the DOE complex.   Check in at the North Entrance.

Take the RED Line to Shady Grove Metro Station.  From there, you may take a taxi or a bus.  By taxi, proceed on I-370 West to I-270 North, Exit 15B.  At the second light, make a left into the DOE complex. The trip from the Shady Grove Metro Station is approximately 10 miles.  Ride On Route 100 is an express bus that operates approximately every 10–15 minutes from the Shady Grove Metro Station to the Germantown Transit Center (which is across Germantown Road from DOE).   Check in at the North Entrance of DOE.

Shuttle Services from Nearby AirportsSuperShuttle at 800-BLUEVAN (1-800-258-3826).  A fleet of 7-passenger vans provide service to and from all three DC-area airports.   Twenty-four-hour advance reservations are recommended for inbound service to the airports.  Also, from Dulles Airport:  Washington Flyer Taxi (703-661-6655 to place a reservation inbound to Dulles).

A DOE shuttle bus service runs each weekday between the DOE Headquarters buildings in Germantown, MD and Washington, D.C. (Forrestal building).   A bus leaves each building 7 times daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (schedule).


Security personnel at the Germantown north gate will ask you for ID and the name and phone number of the DOE staff you are visiting.  After receiving confirmation that you are expected, your automobile will be inspected before you are allowed to pass through the vehicle barriers and park your car.  Enter the DOE building through the north entrance and the security staff will assist you in gaining access to the people you are visiting.  Please plan ahead as the processing of visitor paperwork for non U.S. citizens requires at least one month advanced notice. The Office of Basic Energy Sciences is located on the fourth floor of E-wing and F-wing in the DOE complex.  The room and phone numbers are:
