CIRCULAR LETTER NO. 488

April 13, 2001

TO: Printing and Publishing Officials of the Federal Government

SUBJECT: Rider Requisitions for the NLRB Bench Book

The Government Printing Office (GPO) is now accepting rider orders for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) publication entitled NLRB Bench Book. Published for the use of administrative law judges in the trial of unfair labor practice cases, this book provides ready answers to hundred of issues that may arise during trials. The NLRB's description of the publication follows:

The NLRB Bench Book, written in plain English, cites over 500 decisions by the NLRB and Federal courts, as well as numerous rules of evidence of wide application. Although written primarily for the judges, the Bench Book is also a valuable manual for both Government attorneys and private labor lawyers representing parties in the trials. The manual should also be of value to other Federal and State agencies conducting trials and hearings, especially those over which administrative law judges, administrative judges, or hearing officers preside. Arbitrators and parties involved in labor arbitration should also find the information contained in the manual both informative and useful.

Beginning with efforts to settle the cases, the Bench Book covers subpoenas, rules of separating witnesses when not testifying, pleadings and service of documents, many procedural issues, witnesses' pretrial Jencks statements, attorney-client privilege, conduct of counsel, expert witnesses, interpreters, admissibility of various types of evidence, and many other subjects. A detailed Index and an accompanying diskette (for judges and attorneys with laptop computers at the trials), as well as a Table of Contents and Tables of Authority, make the Bench Book a rapid-reference manual.

Although the rider rate for this publication has yet to be determined, your requisition prior to production allows the printing of these copies during the regular press run. This results in substantial savings, which we are then able to pass along to you. (Please note that the rider rate applies to single destination, local delivery orders only. Mailing costs, if incurred, will comprise an additional charge.)

To take advantage of the rider rate, forward your requisitions (Standard Form 1) to GPO by May 11, 2001. Be sure to specify GPO Jacket Number 478-755 and NLRB Requisition Number 1-00061 on your requisition. Field or regional activities should coordinate their requirements with their Washington, DC, area headquarters' printing officers before submitting any paperwork.

If you have any questions, or require additional information, please contact your GPO Account Representative or call the Departmental Account Representative Division on 202-512-0238.

Sincerely,

JIM BRADLEY
Director, Customer Services
