TO: Printing and Publishing Officials of the Federal Government
SUBJECT: Changes in the Cost to Publish in the Federal Register
This is to inform you of changes in the page rates charged for publishing in the Federal Register effective January 1, 2000. Most of the Government Printing Office's (GPO) pre-press work is eliminated when processing agency submissions of fully coded and validated documents that meet requirements for input to GPO's MicroComp composition software. Because of this, a special interim rate will be in effect until GPO becomes fully operational with SGML-structured documents. It is estimated that this will occur in early 2000. At that time, the higher rate* will be placed in effect due to the conversions that will be required to arrive at SGML-compliant documents.
Effective January 1, 2000, the following rates will be implemented:
Billing Code |
Description |
Page Rate |
Column Rate |
M | Manuscript | $474 | $158 |
C | Camera Copy | 474 | 158 |
D | Magnetic Tape | 444 | 148 |
U | Unformatted, ASCII | 444 | 148 |
P | MS Word/Word Perfect, diskette | 444 | 148 |
F | Fully coded
and
validated Interim Rate When SGML implemented* | 333 408 |
111 136 |
S | SGML-coded and validated | 312 | 104 |
If you would like assistance in making the conversion to more economical formats, or have any other questions, please contact your GPO Customer Services Departmental Account Representative.
Sincerely,
JIM BRADLEY
