SUBJECT: Rider Requisitions for the Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 1997 and CD-ROM

Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 1997 contains the Budget Message of the President and an overview of the President's budget proposals. It includes summary information on the economic assumptions used in the FY 1997 budget, Federal receipts, and Federal spending.

Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 1997 - Appendix presents detailed information on the various appropriations and funds that constitute the budget. It includes for each Government department and agency the test of proposed appropriations language, budget schedules for each account, new legislative proposals, explanations of the work to be performed and the funds needed, and proposed general provisions applicable to the appropriations of entire agencies or groups of agencies.

To the extent feasible, the data has been adjusted to provide consistency with the FY 1997 Budget and to provide comparability over time.

It also includes explanations of spending programs and estimated receipts and contains a description of the budget system and various summary tables on the budget as a whole. Availability of CD-ROM--Budget publications listed above will be available on CD-ROM for agencies to ride. For last year's budget, the first issue CD-ROM was distributed when the budget was released and contained all five budget books. A second CD-ROM was distributed approximately 3 weeks later that contained the same initial publications, plus supporting budget documents, and The Economic Report of the President. OMB plans a similar release for this year's budget, but cautions that there are uncertainties about the production of this year's budget. The budget CD-ROM will include a combination of ASCII text, Lotus spreadsheets, and Adobe Acrobat files suitable for full-text search. Please specify first or second issue. If not specified, second issue will be furnished.

Since the number of pages will not be known until the last moment, the actual rider rate is impossible to forecast. However, the approximate costs shown should be sufficient for budgeting purposes. Rider requisitions WILL NOT be accepted after February 7, 1996. Please specify paper or casebound copies. If not specified, paper copies will be furnished. Requests for advance copies cannot be honored.
