2007 National Park Transportation Scholar Program

The National Park Transportation Scholar Program supported six transportation scholars - individuals with substantial knowledge and expertise in transportation planning and related fields - in national parks across the nation. These transportation experts and graduate students provided professional assistance on transportation-related projects for three months to one year. The program is designed to promote sustainable transportation solutions that help preserve park resources and enhance visitors’ experience.

In 2007, transportation scholars provided needed expertise at:

  • Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park in Florida
  • Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio
  • Devil's Postpile National Monument in California
  • Grand Canyon NP in Arizona (Servicing the entire Intermountain Region of the National Park Service)
  • Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in California
  • Zion National Park in Utah

The National Park Foundation has selected 32 scholars to date. 14 have been women and 18 have been men.

The National Park Transportation Scholars Program is a partnership between the National Park Foundation and the National Park Service is made possible through the generous support of Ford Motor Company, a Proud Partner of America’s National Parks.
