Introduction

Federal Workplace
The Federal Workplace Element encourages an efficient distribution of federal work activities in the region, assuring federal workplaces that offer good work environments for the federal workforce while providing services that attract and retain federal employees.

Foreign Missions and International Organizations
The Foreign Missions and International Organizations Element provides a policy framework for the U.S. to fulfill its international obligation to assist foreign governments and international organizations in obtaining suitable locations for their operations.

Transportation
The Transportation Element promotes a balanced, multi-pronged strategy to maximize federal employees’ and facilities’ access to the region’s extensive transit system.

Parks and Open Space
The Parks and Open Space Element establishes policies to protect, enhance, and expand the region's parks and open space system.

Federal Environment
The Federal Environment Element promotes the federal government as an environmental steward and identifies the Commission’s planning policies related to the maintenance, protection, and enhancement of the region’s natural environment.

Preservation and Historic Features
The Preservation and Historic Features Element helps to strengthen the significant architectural and planning character that make the national capital a unique place.

Visitors
The Visitors Element responds to the growth in tourism and the continuing interest in creating new federal visitor attractions.

Action Plan
The Action Plan contains specific projects to advance the Commission’s vision, and to set in motion the necessary steps to activate the Comprehensive Plan’s goals and policies.
