Description: Scotland’s national bibliography brings together over 70,000 records of books, periodicals and major articles of Scottish interest published all over the world. Additional bibliographic databases available containing details of publications relating to Scotland or held in Scottish Libraries include: Bibliography of Scottish Gaelic (BOSG); Bibliography of Scottish Literature in Translation (BOSLIT); Bibliography of the Scots Language (BOSLAN); Union Catalogue of Art Books in Libraries in Scotland (UCABLIS); Millgate Union Catalogue of Walter Scott Correspondence; Scottish Book Trade Index (SBTI); and Scottish Books 1505-1640 (Aldis updated). Other databases from the National Library of Scotland:

  • Emigrants guides to Australia and New Zealand - contains works directed at those intending to settle in what is now Australia and New Zealand, ranging from the early 19th to the late 20th centuries. It includes some travel accounts and descriptive works on countries, states and provinces, but only where these are considered for emigration; it does not include pamphlets or other more general works about the need for emigration schemes.
  • Emigrants' Guides to North America - contains works directed at those intending to settle in what is now Canada and the United States, ranging from the early 17th to the late 20th centuries. It includes some travel accounts and descriptive works on countries, states and provinces, but only where these are considered for emigration; it does not include pamphlets or other more general works about the need for emigration schemes.
  • Emigration from Scotland: Emigrants' Correspondence - database based on letters and papers from the Library's manuscripts collections, dating from 1685 but mostly of the 19th and 20th centuries. Much of the database consists of summary listings and brief details of content of individual letters of emigrants from Scotland in their host countries written to friends or relatives at 'home'. If existing, letters from friends or relations in Scotland are also noted, as are some manuscripts, correspondence or papers relating more generally to the subject of emigration.
  • National Library of Scotland Digital Library - includes Maps, Letters, sketches and photographs of Robert Louis Stevenson; Life, work and legacy of Robert Burns; The Auchinleck Manuscript; and other collections.
  • ScotlandsPeople - contains almost 50 million records of original genealogical information.
  • Scots In North America - lists accounts of visits to North America, from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
  • Scottish History in Print - electronic version of David and Wendy B. Stevenson's Scottish Texts and Calendars, the leading guide to historical documents transcribed and published by private Scottish historical clubs and societies.
