School Preparedness. A list of grant funding, planning and training, organizations, and other resources to help prepare schools at all levels for incidents.

National Response Framework (FEMA). Establishes a comprehensive all-hazards approach to enhance the ability of the United States to manage domestic incidents.

National Incident Management System (FEMA). A nationally unified approach to incident management; standard command and management structures; and emphasis on preparedness, mutual aid and resource management.

Nationwide Plan Review. Assessed the status of catastrophic planning and draw initial conclusions for catastrophic and evacuation planning in all states and 75 of the nation’s largest urban areas.

First Responder Authentication Cards. An initiative to develop a smart identity card system to allow first responders from across the National Capital Region the ability to quickly access government buildings and reservations in the event of a terrorist attack or other disaster.

Citizen Corps. A nationwide grassroots effort to educate and train Americans of all abilities on all-hazards preparedness and to foster collaboration between non-governmental organizations, citizens, and emergency responders on community preparedness issues.

READY. A national public service advertising campaign designed to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks.

SAFECOM (SAFECOM Program). A communications program that provides research, development, testing and evaluation, guidelines and tools to emergency response agencies to improve emergency response using interoperable wireless communications.

Office of the Federal Coordinator for Gulf Coast Rebuilding. Established to help devise a long-term plan for rebuilding the region devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

State and Area Tactical Interoperable Communications Scorecards assess the maturity of tactical interoperable communications capabilities in 75 urban/metropolitan areas.

Priority Telecommunications (National Communications System). Provides authorized national security and emergency preparedness users priority access to telecommunications services that are vital to coordinating and responding to crises

Top Officials (TOPOFF). The nation's premier terrorism preparedness exercise, involving thousands of federal, state, territorial, and local officials as part of a robust, full-scale simulated response to a multi-faceted threat. This congressionally mandated exercise program is designed to strengthen the nation’s capacity to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks involving weapons of mass destruction.

Hurricane Season Preparations. The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) remind residents and businesses in coastal areas to make their emergency preparations.
