What's New

  • The Department of Homeland Security's implementation of the Chemical Facility Anti-terrorism Standards, published June 2007, entered its second stage with the June 23, 2008 launch of the secure online Security Vulnerability Assessment (SVA) tool.

Only select facilities notified in writing by the Department are required to complete and submit the CSAT SVA. Facilities that receive a Department of Homeland Security initial determination letter are considered high-risk and preliminary Tier 1, 2, 3, or 4, based on an analysis of the Top-Screen questionnaire they submitted to the Department.

  • Review Frequently Asked Questions about the SVA
  • Review PDFs of the SVA instructions and form
  • Get CVI certified to access the SVA tool
  • To simplify account management for CFATS-covered facilities, DHS added an Update My Information Tool to CSAT. To get more information about this tool, please access the CSAT User Account Management Guide (PDF, 32 pages - 1.4 MB).

Responsibility for chemical security is shared among federal, state, and local governments, as well as the private sector.

The Department of Homeland Security has issued Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards for any facility that manufactures, uses, stores, or distributes certain chemicals at or above a specified quantity.

Government and industry must work together to strengthen the security of America's chemical facilities, while not undercutting an important part of the nation's economy.
