  • $12 MILLION AVAILABLE FOR TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR NATIONAL SERVICE.  On April 5th, The Corporation for National and Community Service announced the availability of more than $12 million in funds to support national providers of training and technical assistance for community service programs. The Corporation expects to make the grants, under cooperative agreements, in 16 areas of training and technical assistance. There is the possibility of more than one award for some categories. Funding amounts range from approximately $100,000 to $1,540,000 annually for cooperative agreements of up to three years....

  • AMERICORPS MEMBERS HAVE EARNED $1 BILLION TO PAY FOR HIGHER EDUCATION The Corporation for National and Community Service announced on April 5th that AmeriCorps members have earned more than $1 billion in AmeriCorps Education Awards since the program was launched in 1994. Corporation CEO David Eisner remarked that "One of the core principles of AmeriCorps - modeled after the GI Bill - is that by serving your country, you earn educational opportunity. Today’s announcement shows that principle is working on a major scale...."

Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Bob Woodard upon arrival in Pensacola, Florida, on Friday, March 18, 2005. Woodard, 67, is an active volunteer with the Youth Motivator Mentor Program where he mentors 12 students in elementary and middle school, helping them with academics and providing encouragement and motivation....
