On September 25th, 2006, the Office of Volunteers for Prosperity at the U.S. Agency for International Development commemorated its third anniversary. Volunteers for Prosperity works with leading U.S. non-profits and companies to deploy highly skilled American professionals in volunteer opportunities that support the global health and prosperity goals of the U.S. Government.

National Conference on Citizenship
Held in Washington, DC

The Director of USA Freedom Corps, Desiree T. Sayle, delivered remarks at the 2006 National Conference on Citizenship. Sayle was joined by representatives from the national service sector at the conference, which provided the opportunity to assess our civic health and to develop a common agenda for civic renewal. The conference also featured the release of the Civic Health Index.

2006 Take Pride in America
National Awards Presented

USA Freedom Corps joined with Take Pride in America to honor the 2006 Take Pride in America National Award recipients at an awards ceremony on Thursday, September 14 in Washington, D.C. The individuals and groups from across the country were recognized for their outstanding contributions to local, state and federal public lands.

2006 Community Build Day
Participants Recognized

USA Freedom Corps honored participants of the firth annual Community Build Day, which was sponsored by 46 companies and coordinated by The Financial Services Roundtable, with the President's Volunteer Service Award on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the White House. Awardees helped mobilize more than 5,000 people in volunteer service in all 50 states for the 2006 Community Build Day.

President Bush Recognizes Valrico Youth For Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Zach Bonner, 8, upon arrival at the airport in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday, September 21, 2006. Bonner, a third-grader at Florida Virtual Academy, is creator of the Little Red Wagon Foundation Inc. and a volunteer with StandUp for Kids.
