President Bush Participates in Volunteer Service Projects, Thanks Volunteers
In recognition of National Volunteer Week, President Bush and members of his Cabinet participated in volunteer service activities across the country and recognized volunteers who answered the President's Call to Service. On April 27, President Bush stopped in Louisiana and Mississippi to encourage more Americans to volunteer in the Gulf Coast. Since last year’s hurricanes, volunteers have brought hope to their neighbors, contributing real progress to the rebuilding effort.

President Bush Signs Executive Order to Promote and Expand Volunteer Service
Also on April 27th, President Bush issued an executive order on "Responsibilities Of Federal Agencies With Respect To Volunteer Community Service", strengthening the culture of service within each executive agency by establishing a liaison for volunteer community service.

National Volunteer Week: April 23 Through April 29, 2006
"Inspire by Example" is the theme of this year's National Volunteer Week, showcasing the power volunteers have to inspire not only other people to volunteer but also the people they serve. National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of volunteers across the country and to promote existing opportunities for all Americans to participate in volunteer service.

President Bush Recognizes West Des Moines Teen for Dedication to Volunteer Service
President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Anjana Chandran, 17, upon arrival at the airport in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 11, 2006. Chandran, a senior at Valley High School, is a volunteer at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Blank Children’s Hospital.
