Take Pride in America aims to engage, support, and recognize volunteers who work to improve our public parks, forests, grasslands, wildlife refuges, cultural and historical sites, local playgrounds and other recreation areas. September is National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness MonthThroughout National Preparedness Month this September, hundreds of activities are planned to highlight the importance of individual emergency preparedness. USA Freedom Corps supports Citizen Corps, the Ready.gov campaign and the more than 80 organizations that make up the National Preparedness Month coalition as they encourage Americans to volunteer and take simple steps now to prepare themselves and their families for possible emergencies. President Bush Addresses Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention

Amid a rousing reception at the 2005 Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention, President George W. Bush praised the Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW for their volunteer work in adopting military units, mentoring youth groups, assisting in blood drives and providing "countless services to fellow veterans and their families. When you hear the name VFW, you know a certain type of work is being done - honorable, decent, and faithful to the nation's highest ideals."

President Bush Recognizes Albuquerque Volunteer for Dedication to Volunteer Service

Here's what USA Freedom Corps Greeter Sally Adams of Albuquerque, NM had to say about meeting President Bush on Monday, August 8, 2005: "I can't even express to you what an amazing day Monday was for me. I'm still reeling from the whole experience. It was more than I could ever even have anticipated … it was tremendous and I'll never forget it as long as I live. I want to thank you for selecting me for the Freedom Corps Presidential Service Award and I'm out to earn it!"

To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush has met with nearly 450 individuals around the country, like Adams, since March 2002.
