  • PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS RETURN TO HAITI, REOPEN PROGRAM.
    Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez announced recently that the agency has reopened its program in Haiti and Peace Corps volunteers have returned. The program was temporarily suspended in February due to political instability. Most of the returning volunteers are rural health educators who will provide support for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief….

  • HUNDREDS OF ACTIVITIES PLANNED DURING NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH.  Throughout the month of September, hundreds of activities are planned across the country to highlight the importance of individual emergency preparedness. The National Preparedness Month coalition, which includes the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, USA Freedom Corps, more than 80 organizations, and all 56 states and territories, will encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare themselves and their families for any possible emergencies….

  • PRESIDENT BUSH RECOGNIZES COLUMBUS, OHIO AREA WOMAN FOR DEDICATION TO VOLUNTEER SERVICE.  President George W. Bush met Carol Hribar when he arrived in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, September 1, 2004. Hribar, 54, is an active volunteer with the Westerville Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy, and has earned certification in several Citizen Corps training programs designed to strengthen local homeland security efforts….
