Funding Available for
AmeriCorps National Programs
 Funding is available for organizations interested in applying for AmeriCorps National program grants. AmeriCorps National grants are made directly by the Corporation for National and Community Service to public or private nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, government entities within states or territories, Indian Tribes, and consortia of the aforementioned. There are six types of AmeriCorps National grant opportunities available:
- AmeriCorps National Direct
- AmeriCorps National Professional Corps
- AmeriCorps National Planning
- AmeriCorps Indian Tribes Planning
- AmeriCorps National Education Award Program
- AmeriCorps Indian Tribes
The deadline for Planning Grant Applications is November 5, 2008, 5:00 pm EST. The deadline for all other applications is 5:00 pm EST on January 13, 2009.

Boy Scouts of America "ArrowCorps5" Completes Largest Service Project Since WWII
 On Friday, August 1st, 2008, the elite group of the Boy Scouts of America, the Order of the Arrow (OA), completed their 5th and final summer service project at the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Jackson, WY, making this their largest volunteer service project since World War Two. The summer-long effort took nearly three years of planning and engaged five thousand Arrowmen providing more than 250,000 hours of service, valued at over $5 million.
The Arrowmen partook in trail maintenance, invasive species removal, fence building, erosion control, and built miles of hiking, horseback riding, and biking trails. ArrowCorps5 provided a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for each participant to set an example of leadership in service to those who treasure our national forests.

Learn and Serve America Announces Grants to Boost Math and Science Education through Service-Learning
 Three organizations will use service-learning to ignite the passion for math and science in thousands of low-income students, thanks to grants announced today by Learn and Serve America. The grants will support service-learning programs that prompt students to use the knowledge and skills from science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses to address challenges in their communities. Grantees will use service-learning to increase student interest and engagement in these critical subjects. The grant recipients will emphasize professional development for STEM educators at the middle and high school levels.

President Bush Recognizes Fairbanks AmeriCorps Member for Dedication to Volunteer Service
President George W. Bush presented the President's Volunteer Service Award to Caroline Wolf upon arrival at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, on Monday, August 4, 2008. Wolf is an AmeriCorps member serving at the Literacy Council of Alaska, and also volunteers with Alaska Health Fair Incorporated.
