Background
Michael Schirripa has worked in the field of fisheries science since 1985. During that time, he has worked for the U.S. Peace Corps, U.S. Forest (Mt. Adams Ranger District, WA), U.S. Fish & Wildlife (Abernathy Fish Technology Center, WA), U.S. Parks (Everglades National Park, FL), and NOAA Fisheries (Southeast Fisheries Science Center, FL). He earned his B.S. from Michigan State University in fisheries & wildlife. He also earned a M.S. and a Ph.D. degree in biology from Florida International University.

Current Research
Currently, Michael is working for the NWFSC in Newport, OR as Stock Assessment Team Leader. He also oversees the Finfish Ageing Unit, located at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. His current research focuses on various aspects of sablefish ecology including investigations using pot gear to describe spatial aspects of sablefish distribution and how changes in ocean conditions may affect sablefish recruitment.
