Background
Mindi joined the Northwest Fisheries Science Center in May 2001 and is currently involved with recovery planning for Pacific salmonids. She previously worked with the U.S. Geological Survey out of Cook, Washington and Corvallis, Oregon, where she worked on mainstem Columbia River radio-telemetry studies, spatial analysis of northern pikeminnow and juvenile salmonid migration data, mapping of physical and biological riverine features, and coordinated laboratory GIS-related research and projects. She received her M.S. in Geography from Oregon State University and her B.S. in Biology from Eastern Washington University. Her research at Oregon State University focused on using GIS, remote sensing and 2-dimensional hydrologic modeling to study historical river conditions for fall chinook salmon in the Columbia River.
Current Research
Mindi currently works with the Willamette/ Lower Columbia Technical Recovery Team and provides spatial analyses for watersheds within the recovery domain. Her current projects and research focus on:
- estimating hydrologic runoff and sediment transport using landscape information
- assessment of potential fish distributions using remotely sensed data
- methods for working with linear spatial data sets
- influence of scale on aquatic habitat data
- links between landscape features and fish-related aquatic habitat indices.
She is also a member of the Center's Human Resource Management team and the lead for the Center's GIS User's Group.
