Background
Holly joined the Center's watershed Program in February 2002 as a contractor. She has worked as a field ecologist for 16 years and has conducted research in Antarctica, Britain and various freshwater systems within the Pacific Northwest. Holly received her B.A. in Aquatic Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara and her M.S. in Ecosystem Analysis at the University of Washington. Her graduate work described spatial and temporal patterns in hyporheic invertebrate community structure in a floodplain riparian terrace.
Current Research
Holly's current research examines 1) the role of marine-derived nutrients in aquatic food webs 2) spatial and temporal patterns in periphyton and benthic invertebrate assemblage across regulated and unregulated sections of the Elwha River and 3) the efficacy of using Engineered Log Jams (ELJs) as a restoration tool for increasing primary and secondary productivity in large impacted rivers. Her research interests include interactions between stream productivity and aquatic food web structure and population dynamics and the development of protocols for monitoring restoration activities.
