Background
Mike Gessel has worked as a research fishery biologist at NWFSC's Pasco field station since 1975. He holds a B.S. in biology from Eastern Washington University.

Current Research
The majority of Mike's research has been involved with improving juvenile salmonid passage at hydroelectric sites on the Columbia and Snake rivers. He is specifically involved in the development of submersible traveling screens and extended length bar screens, as well as the development of various flow control devices used in conjunction with the guidance screens. During the past several years, Mike has been conducting studies to evaluate the swimming behavior of juveniles under a variety of flow conditions at McNary Dam.
