Background
Cindy Bucher started with the NWFSC in 1990, working in the Environmental Conservation Division. At that time, she was a student at Seattle University working on a research project. In 1991, Cindy graduated with a B.S. in biology and began working full time for NWFSC. She worked as a chemist, studying possible links between DNA damage and contaminants for EC until 1997, when she transferred to the FE Division as part of the newly formed Estuarine and Ocean Ecology Program.
Current Research
Cindy's current responsibilities include ocean sampling for juvenile salmonids, data entry and management of the trawl catch database and organizing necropsies of target salmonids. Her additional responsibilities involve maintaining the lab and the equipment used to grind salmon otoliths as well as an image analysis system used to process data and salmon tissues for bioenergetic analysis.
