Background
Tom Hom is the Northwest Fisheries Science Center Coordinator for scientific communication and outreach. He works closely with the Science Director's Office on communicating NOAA Fisheries and NWFSC strategic goals and objectives to a wide range of audiences and has been an employee at the Center since 1979. He previously was the Division Coordinator for the Environmental Conservation Division (ECD) at the NWFSC and conducted research on the metabolic fate and effects of organic contaminants on marine biota. His area of expertise is studying the uptake, accumulation, and disposition of these pollutants in fish and marine mammals; the findings of these studies are used to assess potential adverse biological effects. He received as B.S. and M.S. in chemistry from Montana State University and the University of Washington, respectively.

Current Research
Tom coordinates science and outreach activities for the NWFSC, including the Center's Ocean and Human Health Program, ocean governance initiatives such as the Puget Sound Partnership and the West Coast Governors Agreement on Ocean Health, and the NOAA West regional team. He also manages the Center's Scientific Writing and Communications Team.
