Tomorrow morning marks opening of First Street, Holmberg Pedestrian Bridge, Hunter Museum of American Art and Renaissance Park

4/22/2005

The media and the public are encouraged to join Mayor Ron Littlefield and former Mayor Bob Corker for the first series of openings for the transformative 21st Century Waterfront development.

The opening of the First Street Steps and the Holmberg Pedestrian Bridge will occur Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.  The ceremonies for this component of the project will occur in the square at the top of First Street between the entrance to the Walnut Street Bridge and the Holmberg Pedestrian Bridge.  Ruth Holmberg and Virginia Ann Sharber will join both Mayors in opening this area which will connect the city to the Bluff View Arts District.

Following tomorrow’s First Street opening, please plan to come across the Holmberg Bridge to celebrate the 10 a.m. opening of the Hunter Museum of American Art.

The final opening of the morning will occur at 10:30 a.m. as the new 23 acre Renaissance Park opens on the North Shore.  Follow River Street under the Market Street Bridge to the new road that connects Coolidge and Renaissance Parks.  The opening will occur at the park’s entrance beside the hot air balloon which will be on-hand for the festivities.

We look forward to you joining us as we celebrate three monumental achievements for our community.
