Mayor Ron Littlefield Hosts Chinese Delegation from Sister City Wuxi

Monday, December 19, 2005.  Mayor Ron Littlefield will host dignitaries from Chattanooga’s Sister City, Wuxi, China today.  The eight member delegation consists of high ranking party officials and foreign affairs directors. 

They Are: Mr. Gu Panzeng, Vice Chair of the Wuxi Municipal Committee of CPPCC, Mr. He Xihong, Deputy Secretary General of Wuxi Municipal Committee of CPPCC, Mr. Xu Zhongqiang, Director of Wuxi Municipal Office for Overseas Chinese Affairs, Mr. Chen Guodong, Director of Wuxi Municipal Judicial Administration, Mr. Tang Jinlin, Deputy Chairman of the Chongan District Committee of CPPCC of Wuxi City, Mr. Zhao Ming ,Deputy Director of Wuxi Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Mr. Qi Xuetian, Division Chief, Wuxi Municipal Foreign Affairs Office.

The Chinese are here to learn more about Chattanooga’s manufacturing capabilities, riverfront revitalization and to conduct a meeting with the Chinese Garden Committee. 

Mayor Ron Littlefield said, “This is a great opportunity for us to actually show them in person what I spoke to them about just a few months ago when I was in China.”  Mayor Littlefield was invited to Wuxi, China in September of this year to speak at an international business expo.  Wuxi chose Mayor Littlefield as its keynote speaker, in part, because Chattanooga has been Wuxi’s Sister City for more than two decades. 

At 10 am, Mayor Ron Littlefield and the Chinese Delegation will begin its tour today at Astec Industries.  Media interested in following the group should call:

At 1:30 pm, The Chinese Garden Committee will meet with the Mayor and the delegates at the Mountain City Club.  They will discuss plans for a garden in Coolidge Park. The Media are encouraged to attend.

At 3 pm, the delegation will take a tour of the 21st Century Waterfront and the Tennessee Aquarium
