Jim Scales Keynote Address for City Neighborhoods Conference

As a father, teacher and now superintendent for Hamilton County Schools, Dr. Jim Scales, the keynote for the Neighborhoods Conference, knows the importance of education and its impact on our society.  In his speech he will illustrate the need for education as the foundation for successful neighborhoods and communities.

Join the City of Chattanooga Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development for its 8th Annual Neighborhoods and Codes Conference September 27-29, 2006 at the Chattanooga Convention Center.  Dr. Scales will speak at 7:30pm on Wednesday, September 27th.  All media are encouraged to attend.

This year’s theme is, Laying the Foundation for Better Neighborhoods…One Brick at a Time.  The conference will focus on the bricks that provide Education, Opportunities, and Experiences.

As always, Neighborhood leaders and municipal codes enforcement professionals will learn from and network with regional and national leaders.  The knowledge learned will help Chattanooga’s neighborhoods continue to grow strongly.

Mayor Ron Littlefield at 8am, Thursday, September 28th; 

Asheville, North Carolina Mayor Terry Bellamy at noon on Thursday, September 28th .  Upon her inauguration, she became the youngest Mayor in North Carolina, the youngest Mayor ever elected in Asheville and the first African-American to serve as Mayor in Asheville.

Bernard Kincaid, J.D., Ph.D., Mayor of Birmingham, Alabama will speak at noon on Friday, September 29.  Before running for mayor of Birmingham, he retired from UAB where he served as assistant professor and assistant to the dean for cultural diversity and minority affairs, School of Health Related Professions.  Dr. Kincaid says he began to amass his political experience when he was elected as president of his elementary school class.
