Mayor Bob Corker to announce Community Education Alliance High Performing Teachers

8/6/2002

Chattanooga, TN – In a media conference scheduled tomorrow, Mayor Bob Corker will introduce for the first time the high performing teachers who will be taking advantage of the incentive program offered through the Community Education Alliance

Formed late last year, the Community Education Alliance, is an advisory group to the Mayor, composed of some of the area’s most successful leaders in business.  Early on, the Alliance focused their efforts on the recruitment and retention of high performing teachers in the City’s nine high priority elementary schools, Calvin Donaldson Elementary, Clifton Hills Elementary, East Lake Elementary, East Side Elementary, Hardy Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, Howard Elementary, Orchard Knob Elementary and Woodmore Elementary.

An incentive plan which the group introduced last Spring, calls for providing incentives to high performing teachers already teaching at the nine high priority schools and incentives for those high performing teachers who are recruited to those schools.

The Mayor will be joined at the media conference by the teachers, Superintendent Jesse Register and the Community Education Alliance members tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the City Council building.  All media are encouraged to attend.
