Afternoon Fire Damages House in Brainerd

4/14/2008

Chattanooga firefighters were called to a house fire at 3621 Cherryton Drive in Brainerd this afternoon shortly before 2:00.  Captain Darrell Burt with Quint 13 reported seeing the flames from several blocks away as they raced to the scene from Brainerd Road.  The fire was actually on the back side of the two-story house, in the kitchen.  As other firefighters arrived on the scene, Captain Burt said they were able to contain most of the fire damage to the kitchen and attic above.  The rest of the house had smoke and water damage.  The dollar loss was estimated at around $30,000.

Captain Burt said two adult males were in the house at the time, but both got out of the house uninjured.  A woman and a 2-year-old child also reportedly lived there, but they were not home at the time of the fire.  Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to the victims.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
