Ambulance Wreck 1600 McCallie Ave.

7/21/2005

Members of the Chattanooga Police Department’s Traffic Division are currently investigating a serious traffic crash that occurred this evening a little before 7:30, in the 1600 block of McCallie Ave.

Investigators tell us that an Erlanger-Lifeforce Ambulance was transporting a patient (non-emergency) when a Light Blue Honda Accord pulled out in front of them and they were unable to avoid striking it.  The ambulance had been traveling East on McCallie Ave. and the Accord had been traveling North on Hickory St.  The driver of the Accord said that he didn’t see the ambulance when he pulled into the intersection.

The ambulance driver, a family member of the patient, another paramedic, and the patient himself were transported to area hospitals.  The paramedic in the back of the ambulance suffered the most severe injuries, a broken leg and possibly a broken arm.  The driver of the Accord was also taken to the hospital.  None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

No charges are planned but the driver of the Accord will be listed at fault for failure to yield the right of way.
