Mayor Ron and Lanis Littlefield Honorary Hosts of 2006 Heart Gala Saturday Night

2/9/2006

Mayor Ron and Lanis Littlefield will don formal attire in honor of the American Heart Association’s 2006 Heart Gala Saturday night.  The Mayor and his wife are honorary hosts of the annual fundraiser.

“My wife Lanis and I are happy to help raise money for such an important organization.  Heart disease is something that has touched both sides of our families so we know first hand how valuable education and awareness are in saving lives,” said Mayor Ron Littlefield.

The Heart Gala is the American Heart Association's premier black-tie event in Chattanooga.  This year’s theme is “Rock ‘N Roll”, bringing back the beat of a by-gone era. More than 400 guests will enjoy an evening of gourmet dining, a silent and live auction, and dancing to great music by “The Micks.”  Funds raised from this event will help support lifesaving medical research and community education programs.

Heart disease and stroke are Tennessee’s leading cause of death. Together they claim more lives than the next 16 leading causes of death combined…including cancer.

But heart disease is not just an adult problem anymore. Recently, the American Heart Association formed an alliance with the Clinton Foundation, Governor Mike Huckabee and Nickelodeon to address the growing problem of obesity across the country.  There will be a special appeal at this year's Heart Gala to fund this program to engage young people in changing their habits for a lifetime.
