Frequently Asked Questions about the Annual Screening Questionnaire

1. How often am I required to update my personal information with the Coast Guard Reserve (IRR)?

You are required to update your information annually or when you change your addresses or employment status.

2. Am I being recalled? Can you tell me what’s going on? I've seen lots of things on the news with the war.

Receipt of the Annual Screening Questionnaire is not an indication that you are about to be recalled to war.  Our office does not make that determination.

3. I just sent in my ASQ a couple of months ago. Why am I “required” to do it again?

If you have received this form recently or have recently updated your information please take the time to do it again. We are attempting to maintain the most current information on file.

4. What are these occupation codes? Are they “required” as well?

Occupation codes are used to identify your skills. We are required to collect this information on each person in the IRR.

5. I thought I was out of the Coast Guard because I have joined another service or was discharged.

If you received a questionnaire, then our records indicate that you are still in the Coast Guard. Please contact us if you feel that you have received a questionnaire in error.

6. My spouse is overseas. Can I update this form for him/her?

Unless you have a power of attorney, you must forward the form to your spouse for him/her to update. If your spouse has an internet connection the update can be done on line.

7. Can I update my ASQ over the phone?

No. All updates must be done via our online form or mail.
