Smoke-Free Conference Policy

no smoking signA new policy requires that all meetings or conferences sponsored by SAMHSA must be held in a smoke-free state or municipality.

This means that SAMHSA meeting organizers will be choosing locations that have adopted a comprehensive smoke-free policy, unless specific circumstances justify an exemption.

SAMHSA’s decision follows extensive scientific data indicating that secondhand smoke causes premature death and disease in people who do not smoke, as summarized in the Surgeon General’s report, The Health Consequences of Involuntary Exposure to Tobacco Smoke.
