Developing technologies that provide clean, efficient, and renewable energy is a key component of a secure energy future for the United States. The Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) invests in a portfolio of energy technologies that will:

  • Enhance energy efficiency and productivity.
  • Bring clean, reliable, and affordable energy technologies to the marketplace.
  • Make a difference in the everyday lives of Americans by enhancing their energy choices and quality of life.

NETL supports the EERE mission by managing research and development projects for EERE programs. This project management responsibility is done as part of the Project Management Center, along with the Golden Field Office.

Market and Policy Drivers
The United States consumes much more energy than it produces domestically. Ensuring that this imbalance does not undermine our economy, standard of living, or national security is the fundamental energy challenge facing the United States. The President’s National Energy Policy identifies increased use of renewable energy sources and improved energy efficiency in all sectors as key factors in meeting this challenge.

NETL’s Contributions
NETL’s years of project management excellence and significant technical knowledge help EERE achieve its mission. As a national laboratory, NETL’s core capabilities are synergistic with EERE’s goals. NETL provides project, procurement, and financial management to support seven of EERE’s eleven programs.

The scope of NETL’s project management work includes soliciting for technology R&D or support needs, managing the selection process, creating statements of work, developing project milestones, tracking project budgets, and participating in project continuation decisions.
