For long-duration spaceflights, explorers will need to grow their own food. Students can simulate the growing of plants in space by using the engineering design process to build a plant growth chamber. After the plant growth chamber is built and evaluated, students can use basil seeds that have been exposed to the space environment to test their design. This flier describes details of the challenge.
