The Department of Energy partners with major industrial players in clean coal technology to conduct clean coal demonstrations on a large scale. These major demonstrations help to identify technologies that are ready for market, as well as to pinpoint challenges in other technologies that remain to be solved on the way to commercial viability. While neither could do this alone, together government and industry can provide the funding and the know-how to meet the goal of achieving a secure and reliable energy infrastructure that is environmentally and economically sustainable.
