NAFTA Steel Associations and ILAFA Agree on Principles to Address Trade Aspects of Global Economic Crisis
11/03/2008- Cancun, Mexico – Representatives of five major NAFTA steel associations – American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA), Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA), Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) and Mexican Steel Producers Association (CANACERO) – met with representatives of the Latin American Iron and Steel Association (ILAFA) on October 24 to discuss trade and other policy issues of common concern.
September Imports Up 15 Percent vs. August
10/28/2008- Washington, D.C. – Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that the U.S. imported a total of 2,921 ,000 net tons (NT) of steel in September 2008, including 2,428,000 NT of finished steel (up 15 percent and 18 percent, respectively, vs. August final data).

August Steel Shipments Down 3.9 Percent From Last Year
10/16/2008- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of August 2008, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,860,000 net tons, a 3.9 percent decrease from the 9,209,000 net tons shipped in August 2007 and a 3.6 percent decrease from the 9,175,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, July 2008.
EPA Reports American Steel Industry has Steepest Decline in Emissions Among Nine Industries
10/10/2008- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American steel sector is recognized as having the steepest decline of total emissions among nine manufacturing sectors studied in the just-released U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2008 Sector Performance Report.
Steel Import Permit Applications Increase 9 Percent vs. Prior Month
10/10/2008- Washington, D.C. - Based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that steel import permit applications for the month of September totaled 2,684,000 net tons (NT).

California Steel Industries Reports Third Quarter 2008 Results
11/04/2008- FONTANA, Calif. - California Steel Industries, Inc. ("CSI") today reported third quarter results for the quarter ended September 30, 2008. Net sales for the period were $440.8 million, from shipments of 352,010 net tons. Net income for the period is $35.5 million.
