is a pattern that can be printed, cut out, folded, and taped
in the shape of a pyramid. Printed on each side are the
metric equivalents for common customary measurements. The
measurement conversions listed on the pyramid are:
Length:
1 inch equals 25.4 millimeters; 1 inch equals 2.54 centimeters;
1 foot equals 0.3048 meter; 1 yard is approximately equal
to 0.9144 meter; 1 mile is approximately equal to 1.6 kilometers.
Mass
or weight: 1 ounce is approximately equal to 28 grams; 1
pound is approximately equal to 0.45 kilogram; a short ton
(2,000 pounds) equals 0.9 ton.
Area
or surface: 1 square inch is approximately equal to 645
square millimeters; 1 square foot is approximately equal
to 0.093 cubic meter; 1 square yard is approximately equal
to 0.84 square meter; 1 square mile is approximately equal
to 2.59 square kilometers; 1 acre is approximately equal
to 4047 square meters; 1 acre is approximately equal to
0.004 square kilometer.
Energy:
1 BTU (60 degrees Fahrenheit) is approximately equal to
1055 joules; 1 calorie (15 degrees Celsius) is approximately
equal to 4.19 joules; 1 kilowatt hour equals 3.6 times 10
to the 6 joules.
Volume:
1 teaspoon equals 5 milliliters; 1 tablespoon equals 15
milliliters; 1 cup (8 ounces) is approximately equal to
0.24 liter; 1 quart (32 ounces) is approximately equal to
0.95 liter; 1 cubic foot is approximately equal to 0.028
cubic meter; 1 cubic yard is approximately equal to 0.76
cubic meter.
Temperature:
Celsius equals 5 divided by 9 multiplied by the remainder
of the degrees in Fahrenheit minus 32; Fahrenheit equals
9 divided 5 multiplied by the sum of the degrees in Celsius
plus 32.
