The Snack Food Association (SFA) is the international trade association of the snack food industry representing snack manufacturers and suppliers. SFA represents over 400 companies worldwide. SFA business membership includes, but is not limited to, manufacturers of potato chips, tortilla chips, cereal snacks, pretzels, popcorn, cheese snacks, snack crackers, meat snacks, pork rinds,snack nuts,party mix, corn snacks, pellet snacks, fruit snacks, snack bars, granola, snack cakes, cookies and various other snacks. Register Now for SNAXPO 2009 in Orlando!

All the details for SNAXPO 2009 are coming together and it’s time to make your plans to attend the world’s largest trade show devoted exclusively to the snack food industry.

To be held March 29-April 1 in Orlando, FL, SNAXPO will draw thousands of industry professionals from more than 60 countries around the world looking for the latest products and developments, face-to-face meetings with suppliers, networking, outstanding speakers and educational seminars.

Hundreds of exhibitors are expected at the show, which will be held at the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes, FL.

SNAXPO Keynote Speaker will be Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns, former Undersecretary of State, who over 27 years has played a key leadership role in U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, Europe, and South Asia. SNAXPO attendees will hear Ambassador Burns discuss why it is more important than ever for America to take account of the world’s concerns, deliver a positive, hopeful image, and participate more constructively in organizations like the United Nations. He will speak Monday, March 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Other highlights will include:

  • Latin American Educational Track, Sunday, March 29, during which industry developments of special interest to snack industry executives from Latin American countries will be presented in Spanish.
  • Circle of Honor Award presentation Monday, March 30.
  • Educational sessions on Monday and Tuesday afternoons covering direct store delivery, economic forecast and trends, energy and commodities prices, and reasons why lean implementations fail will be presented Monday afternoon on the show floor.
  • Special international reception Monday evening.
  • State of the Industry and Consumer Eating Trends reports will be presented Tuesday morning.
  • SnackPAC Golf and Tennis Tournaments, will be held Wednesday afternoon, April 1.

SFA Management Workshop Helps Industry Pros Cope With Change

Snack food industry sales, marketing manufacturing executives gathered in Chantilly, VA, near Washington, DC, September 14-16 for SFA’s 2008 Management Workshop where they honed their professional skills in their quest to help their companies cope with today’s business challenges.

They heard incoming SFA Chairman Terry McDaniel, President & CEO, The Inventure Group, challenge the industry to effectively respond to changes facing consumers. Pointing out that SFA’s new State of the Industry Report discusses consumers’ preferences for healthier options, he said, “If you are just producing traditional indulgent snacks, you might want to reconsider.”   (Continued, please click HERE.)

New Online Member Education Programs From SJU & OSU Available

The Snack Food Association, in conjunction with Ohio State University (OSU) and St Joseph’s University (SJU), is now offering on-line courses in food science and food marketing for SFA member company associates.

The program was developed in conjunction with the two universities to provide SFA member company personnel easy access to continuing education at a reduced cost for tuition for SFA members. The program offers courses in key disciplines requested by SFA members.

A series of new SJU marketing courses will be available early in 2008, and for a limited time all SJU courses will be offered to SFA members tuition-free.

Food Safety and Nutrition

The Snack Food Association supports efforts to protect consumers from unsafe food products and substances. SFA also works hard to assure that its members are kept up to date on governmental food safety regulations and requirements.

FDA Inspection Manual is Now Avalible

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 2007 Inspection Manual now known as The Investigations Operations Manual (IOM) is now availible on the FDA website. This manual is the primary source guidance document on FDA inspection policy and procedures for field investigators and inspectors.
