Erie County Environmental Management Council

The Erie County Environmental Management Council (EMC) was established in 1971 under Article 47 of the New York State Environmental Conservation Law. Members of the Council represent many of the cities, towns and villages within Erie County, as well as 12 at-large members from throughout the County. Their mission is two-fold:

  1. Advise county government on local environmental concerns
  2. Provide a liaison between the community and county government

Solution oriented, the Erie County Environmental Management Council strives to effect environmental improvement within the inter-governmental system. EMC projects often take the form of studies that provide recommended courses of action of decision makers. Some of the highlighted accomplishments of the EMC include:

The "Green Power Brochure" is now available online.

The Green Power Brochure provides the who, where, why and how much on Green Power Suppliers, along with valuable information on energy conservation and how to purchase green power. This is a must see brochure for every citizen. To view a downloadable Adobe Acrobat version, click here.

The Erie County EMC proudly announces the availability of the "Working With Nature To Create Healthy Lawns" flier.

The "Brochure of Natural Places of Erie County" is also available through the Environmental Management Council.

The Erie County Environmental Management Council (ECEMC) has issued an updated version of "Natural Places of Erie County." This fold out brochure includes a map of 44 of the County's natural places and a grid showing the amenities of each location. The PDF can be downloaded from this web site or a paper copy can be requested from the ECEMC by calling 858-6370.

The ECEMC would like to thank all of the parties involved in sponsoring the updated version, including: the County Executive, the Erie County Legislature, the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, the Erie County Department of Parks and Recreation, and Zelak Design. In addition, the ECEMC would like to recognize the individuals and groups that were involved in the initial brochure that was co-authored by Cara Lalley and Jill Singer with Margaret Wooster in 1997: Buffalo State College, Buffalo friends of Olmstead Parks, Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, Erie County Legislature, Jim Shea and Zelak Design.
