Parolee at Large Shooting

Details:       The Lodi Police Department and the San Joaquin District Attorneys Office Protocol Team are currently investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in the parking lot at USA Gas Station at approx. 1150 HRS.

The Lodi Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit received information this morning on the possible location of a parolee at large out of Stanislaus County.  The Lodi Police Department’s S.I.U. team was conducting surveillance of a house in the 300 Block E. Elm St.  The suspect, identified as Chad Joseph Morrow D.O.B. 07-18-80, was spotted by Detectives driving his vehicle near the USA Gas station at Cherokee Ln. and Elm St.

Detectives involved in the surveillance responded to the gas station and attempted to stop Morrow in the parking lot.  Morrow proceeded to use his vehicle to ram the Detective’s unmarked police car.   Detectives exited their vehicles and identified themselves as police officer’s while giving Morrow verbal commands.  Morrow did not obey the verbal commands and made a hostile motion involving a handgun in his possession.  Two Lodi Police Department Detectives fearing for their lives and the safety of the public fired their service handguns wounding Morrow.  Morrow was taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital for treatment of his wounds.

A female passenger in Morrow’s vehicle was taken to the Lodi Police Department for questioning and is not under arrest at this time. No members of the Lodi Police Department nor any citizens were injured during this incident.  However, a responding motor unit was involved in a traffic collision and received minor injuries.  Officer involved shootings are a rare occurrence for the Lodi Police Department with the last shooting taking place in 2001.
