Mrs. Bush cited President Bush's challenge to service and added that "Americans today have more opportunities to volunteer through government-supported national service programs."

Speaking about the impending landfall of Hurricane Ike, the President said, "I want to thank the citizens of Oklahoma for getting ready to help a Texan in need. I urge my fellow Texans to listen carefully to what the authorities are saying in Galveston County or parts of Harris County, up and down the coast. The federal government will not only help with the pre-storm strategy, but once this storm passes we'll be working with state and local authorities to help people recover as quickly as possible."

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Dr. Kent Bull upon arrival in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.  Bull has been a volunteer with Trinity Christian Community and Grove Community Church.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Bull, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Keela Carr upon arrival in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.  Carr recently completed a cross-country walk to demonstrate support of all Soldiers and Veterans, and is a Volunteer Ambassador with Freedom Team Salute.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Carr, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Caroline Wolf upon arrival at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, on Monday, August 4, 2008.  Wolf is an AmeriCorps member serving at the Literacy Council of Alaska, and also volunteers with Alaska Health Fair Incorporated.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Wolf, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Jackie Goodall upon arrival in Lewisburg, West Virginia, on Thursday, July 31, 2008.  Goodall is a volunteer with the Shepherd's Center of Greenbrier Valley. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Goodall, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Linda Campbell upon arrival in Cleveland, Ohio, on Tuesday, July 29, 2008.  Campbell is a volunteer with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Northeast Ohio Affiliate, the Junior League of Cleveland, and the American Cancer Society. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Campbell, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Roy Storey upon arrival in Peoria, Illinois, on Friday, July 25, 2008.  Storey is a volunteer with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Storey, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Sherri Goggin upon arrival in Marietta, Georgia, on Tuesday, July 22, 2008.  Goggin is the founder of Bundles of Joy, and a volunteer with Butterfly Dreams Farm Therapeutic Riding Program. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Goggin, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to John Jackson upon arrival in Houston, Texas, on Friday, July 18, 2008.  Jackson is a volunteer with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Jackson, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Mark Hendricks, 20, Jake Wellman, 18, and Alex Braden, 20, upon arrival in Redding, California, on Thursday, July 17, 2008.  California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also joined the President in presenting the award.  The students are Eagle Scouts and members of the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors volunteers when he travels throughout the United States.  This award presentation includes the 650th volunteer the President has honored since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Mary Frances Ward prior to his departure from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on Friday, July 18, 2008.  Ward is a volunteer with Experience Corps and Valley Presbyterian Church.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Ward, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Gary Hall upon arrival at Travis Air Force Base, California, on Thursday, July 17, 2008.  Hall, a master sergeant in the United States Air Force stationed at Travis Air Force Base, is a volunteer with the Suisun City Fire Department. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Hall, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Devy Goradia upon arrival in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Friday, July 4, 2008.  Goradia is a volunteer with the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, the Small Business Development Center and Shelter for Help in Emergency.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Goradia, since March 2002.
