President Bush to Recognize Pennsylvania Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush met Joan Roth upon arrival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Monday, November 1, 2004. Roth is an active volunteer with the Greensburg Youth Commission.

President George W. Bush will meet Joan Roth when he arrives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Monday, November 1, 2004. Roth is an active volunteer with the Greensburg Youth Commission.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and he created USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Roth, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

The Commission is comprised of volunteers appointed by a county judge to hear juvenile cases involving first time offenses such as theft, underage drinking, and curfew violations. Commission members place juveniles on probation, counsel them, and monitor their progress toward becoming model teen citizens. In addition, Roth has been involved with many community service organizations including the Salvation Army and the United Way of Westmoreland County.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
