President Bush to Recognize Florida Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush met Cathy Scheppke upon arrival in Boca Raton, Florida, on Monday, October 18, 2004.  Scheppke is an active volunteer with the American Red Cross.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Scheppke, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Scheppkeis the Red Cross coordinator of disaster health services for Palm Beach, Okeechobee, Hendry, and Glades counties and serves as the lead medical practitioner for the Palm Beach County Red Cross. Sheworked in the Family Service Center during Hurricane Charley, and coordinated the medical needs for 44 shelters during hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. Scheppkeis also trained to travel nationally for the Red Cross during emergencies and was deployed to North Carolina after Hurricane Isabel.
