President George W. Bush will meet Donna Campbell when he arrives in Bellevue, Nebraska, on Monday, October 25, 2004. Campbell, 64, is an active volunteer with the food program at Messenger of Hope Ministries at the Christian Worship Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Campbell, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
For more than nine years, Campbell has been a full time volunteer at Messenger of Hope Ministries. As the director of food ministries, Campbell supervises the preparation and service of meals for the homeless and needy. Campbell is responsible for overseeing meal preparation, coordinating food purchases and donations, menu planning, and scheduling volunteers. The program serves dinner 364 nights a year and breakfast each weekday morning. On average, the food ministry serves more than 3,000 meals per month.
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
