|
President George W. Bush will meet Jeff Kemp when he arrives in Appleton, Wisconsin, on Friday, October 15, 2004. Kemp is an active volunteer with the Oshkosh and Omro school districts.
President Bush hascalled on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Kemp, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
For the past 12 years, Kemp has been a volunteer in the local school districts, visiting elementary classrooms once a week and reading to the students. Kemp also teaches the basics of financial investing to students in the third through twelfth grades. The students learn about economics, inflation, interest rates, and how to understand the use of credit. In addition, Kemp teaches classes in investing and estate planning at three senior centers and a community center. He also instructs an 8-week adult education course in investing and financial planning at schools and community centers in Oshkosh and Fond du Lac.
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
