President George W. Bush will meet Jim Glaza when he arrives in Waterloo, Iowa, on Saturday, October 9, 2004. Glaza, 76, has been an active volunteer with the Waterloo Lion’s Club for the past 40 years.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Glaza, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Glaza has held every office in the Waterloo Lion’s Club including district governor, co-president, and fundraising chair. He currently serves on the fundraising committee organizing activities to raise money for children and adults with eye care needs in the Waterloo area. Glaza also helps with administrative and public relations duties for the Lion’s Club. In addition, Glaza is active with Goodwill Industries International in Waterloo, serving on the Human Services Committee which reviews the organization’s programs and services to ensure they are adequately meeting the needs of disabled and disadvantaged people in the area. Glaza was also one of the original board members for Camp Courageous of Iowa, which provides year-round recreational respite care opportunities for individuals with special needs, their families, and friends.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
