|
President George W. Bush will meet Paul Freeman when he arrives in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Friday, October 1, 2004. Freeman is an active volunteer with the Greater Manchester Chapter of the American Red Cross.
President Bush hascalled on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Freeman, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
For the past eight years, Freeman has served as a Red Cross volunteer. He is a member of the emergency response team and has recently returned from Florida where he assisted with relief efforts in the aftermath of hurricanes Frances and Ivan. Freeman drives an emergency response team vehicle, assesses damage and delivers food and supplies to both relief workers and disaster victims. He has been deployed to recovery efforts throughout the country. Freeman alsocreated a database for the Greater Manchester Red Cross disaster relief team so he can track their skills, education, and on-going training.
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
