President George W. Bush will meet Nancy Weeks when he arrives in Wheeling, West Virginia, on Sunday, August 29, 2004. Weeks is an active volunteer with 4-H, a national youth development and education program.

President Bush hascalled on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Weeks, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

For the past 28 years, Weeks has been a volunteer with 4-H at the local, district, and state levels. She is the advisor for the 4-H Team Leader Organization, which helps teenagers develop leadership skills and a commitment to community service. She also works with the West Virginia State Charting Program that helps teenagers develop self-esteem and communication skills. Weeks is a state-certified 4-H camp director and is the past chairperson for the West Virginia 4-H advisory board.

USA Freedom Corps has launched “A Call to Summer Service,” an initiative to encourage Americans to spend a part of their summer in volunteer service. Through “A Call to Summer Service,” citizens are reminded that summer is an excellent time to answer the President’s Call to Service, strengthen their communities, and extend the compassion and greatness of America. Interested volunteers can find ideas for summer volunteering and information on how to get started at www.usafreedomcorps.gov.
