President Bush to Recognize Nashua Teenager for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush met Julie Dube upon arrival in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Monday, August 30, 2004. Dube, a 16-year-old senior at Nashua High School South, is an active volunteer with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua.

President George W. Bush will meet Julie Dube when he arrives in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Monday, August 30, 2004. Dube, a 16-year-old senior at Nashua High School South, is an active volunteer with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Dube, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

For the past four years, Dube has been a volunteer peer leader with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua. She also works with Smart Girls and Los Amigos, both programs of the Boys & Girls Club, and is president of the Boys & Girls Club Teen Council. Additionally, she has participated in national community service projects including National Make a Difference Day and the National Youth Day of Service.

USA Freedom Corps has launched “A Call to Summer Service,” an initiative to encourage Americans to spend a part of their summer in volunteer service. Through “A Call to Summer Service,” citizens are reminded that summer is an excellent time to answer the President’s Call to Service, strengthen their communities, and extend the compassion and greatness of America. Interested volunteers can find ideas for summer volunteering and information on how to get started at www.usafreedomcorps.gov.
