President George W. Bush met Marj Kamrath upon arrival in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, August 14, 2004. Kamrath is an active volunteer with the Food Bank of Siouxland.

President George W. Bush will meet Marj Kamrath when he arrives in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, August 14, 2004. Kamrath is an active volunteer with the Food Bank of Siouxland.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and he created USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Kamrath, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

For the past 12 years, Kamrathhas been a volunteer at the food bank, participating in food drives, and helping to package and deliver food. The Food Bank of Siouxland was established in 1991 and impacts communities in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Last year, the food bank distributed over one million pounds of products to area non-profits. Kamrathalso has a food ministry with New Creation Ministries, which each month serves food to approximately 25 area families in need.

USA Freedom Corps has launched “A Call to Summer Service,” an initiative to encourage Americans to spend a part of their summer in volunteer service. Through “A Call to Summer Service,” citizens are reminded that the summer months are an excellent time to answer the President’s Call to Service, strengthen their communities, and extend the compassion and greatness of America. Interested volunteers can find ideas for summer volunteering and information on how to get started at www.usafreedomcorps.gov.
